Nursing home or home for the elderly
Recently, the term "nursing home" has been increasingly replaced by the term "Senior Citizens' Home", but the form does not change the essence. The principle of social institutions of this type - with permanent accommodation, meals and services for the residents - remains the same.
If the circumstances of life have led to the need to choose a decent nursing home for a loved one, it is worth approaching this question thoroughly, to determine the primary criteria for selection and arrange them in order of importance for you and your relative.
It is believed that life priorities, preferences and habits, formed in an elderly person for years, it is difficult to change without serious efforts, worries and stressful situations. Of course, everything depends on the physical and mental state of the person at the moment, but, in most cases, the right approach, joint discussion of the new place and living conditions will help to minimize the moral damage and make the right choice...
Why a private and not a public nursing home?
It is still a popular opinion that an ordinary pensioner without additional savings can only get into a state (budget) nursing home. This statement has long been untrue. The vast majority of private nursing homes, even in the Moscow region, now accommodate the elderly "for a pension". At the same time, they guarantee a modern level of comfort.
Needless to say, state and private nursing homes are equally subject to the requirements of the law on the basis of social services for citizens.
Speaking of living conditions, when was the last time you heard about the opening of a new state nursing home? Most state-funded social institutions for the elderly and disabled have been operating since the middle of the last century. The exception is some departmental institutions of the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, where not everyone can get in...
It is enough to look at the photos of the interiors and buildings of different boarding houses to compare the quality of accommodation in modern private homes for the elderly with similar public ones.
In terms of the volume and quality of services provided, it's all about staffing. Good staff (nurses, caregivers, cooks...) must be paid a decent wage, while the state budget provides paltry salaries for such workers. Private nursing homes, due to the opportunity to pay higher salaries, gather more qualified and responsible professionals in all positions.
Separately, it is worth mentioning that the registration procedure in a private nursing home is much easier and faster than in a state social institution.
